8mm, Super8, 16mm Film to DVD
That smell coming from those old film canisters is that of your precious memories literally dissolving. Have us transfer your old 8mm and Super8 film to DVD before it's too late. We can also handle 16mm film transfers.
Even if you previously had your home movies converted to VHS tapes years ago, you may wish to go back to these original masters and transfer them one last time to a digital format such as DVD for proper archiving.
This is not to be confused with Video8 or Hi8 video tapes, which were a common camcorder format throughout the 90's.
The Process
Film transfers are done in a two-stage process for optimum results:
- The film is recorded to a digital MiniDV tape for long-term archiving.
- The resulting MiniDV tape is transfered to DVD.
This is a very high quality and compact tape that can easily be stored for future transferring to any new digital formats which may evolve to replace DVD discs.
This 2nd step is actually optional, but this allows you to enjoy your home movies on any standard DVD player.
Price
8mm and Super8 film transfers are billed on a 'per foot' basis, after a minimum charge of $69.99 for the first 50 feet of film, plus $8.00 for a blank MiniDV tape on which to transfer it to. After this initial fee, each additional foot costs $0.32. This will result in a a MiniDV master for archiving, as described above.
8mm and Super8 film typically comes on standard 50' reels of film (they're quite small - about 3" across), amounting to approximately 3 minutes of footage each.
Transferring this master MiniDV tape to DVD then costs an additional $35.00.

All prices are subject to HST (12%). An initial 50% payment is required before beginning the work, with the balance due in full upon completion.
Time
Turn-around time is approximately 2-3 weeks, although rush jobs can typically be accommodated, upon request.
